How to add nicotine to vape shots, Mix & Vape, mini shots and flavours

A guide for resellers to explain to customers who mix their own: how many 10 ml nicoboosters (nicotine shots) it takes to bring a vape shot, a Mix & Vape, a mini shot or a flavour concentrate to the strength they want. The tables give the result ready-made; for any other format, use the formula below.

Which formats are topped up with nicotine?
- Vape shot (longfill): flavour to be topped up, usually 20 ml in a 60 ml bottle. The remaining 40 ml are filled with nicoboosters and neutral bases.
- Mix & Vape (shortfill): 0 mg/ml liquid in a larger bottle, with room for nicoboosters and bases: 20 ml in a 60 ml bottle, or 10 ml in a 20 ml bottle (Mini Mix 10+10).
- Mini shot: 10 ml of flavour in a 20 ml bottle (10+10) or a 30 ml bottle (10 in 30).
- Flavour concentrate: 10 ml to be diluted in base at the dose on the label, often around 10%: about 100 ml of finished liquid.
- 10 ml ready-to-vape liquids: they already contain nicotine and are not mixed.
How is the final strength calculated?
Final strength (mg/ml) = number of nicoboosters × 10 ml × nicobooster strength (mg/ml) ÷ total ml in the bottle.
Example: a 20 ml vape shot in a 60 ml bottle with 2 nicoboosters at 18 mg/ml gives 2 × 10 × 18 ÷ 60 = 6 mg/ml. The remaining 20 ml are filled with 0 mg/ml neutral bases or with glycerine and propylene glycol. The tables use 20, 18 and 9 mg/ml nicoboosters, the most common; the same formula works for 12, 10 or 6 mg/ml.

With 10 ml of flavour at 10% you make about 100 ml: add 90 ml of nicoboosters and neutral base to the 10 ml of flavour. If the label gives another dose, the final volume changes: then use the formula.

What VG/PG ratio do I get?
The final ratio depends on the liquid's or flavour's own ratio, shown on the label, and on that of the nicoboosters and bases, which come in 50/50, 70/30, full VG or full PG. With 50/50 nicoboosters and bases the liquid moves towards 50/50; for a thicker liquid use 70/30 or full VG nicoboosters and bases, or fill the space with vegetable glycerine (VG).
Can I use nicotine salt boosters?
Yes: they are dosed the same way, so the tables and the formula do not change. The catalogue has nicotine salt boosters in 50/50, 70/30 and full VG; they are used mostly in mouth-to-lung (MTL) pod devices.
Why is nicotine sold in 10 ml bottles?
Under the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), nicotine e-liquids are sold in bottles of at most 10 ml and at no more than 20 mg/ml. That is why nicotine comes in 10 ml nicoboosters, while vape shots, Mix & Vape and flavours are nicotine-free. Limits, labels and the sales rules in Italy are on the Nicotine and the TPD page. The mix is prepared for personal use: nicotine e-liquids are sold only in 10 ml bottles.
How should nicotine bases be handled?
- Nicotine bases are classified as hazardous: handle them with gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, keep them closed and out of reach of children and pets.
